Looks like this man was "lost" in the collapse of the 6th Army in Stalingrad. You can see from the unit page he ended up in a "recovery and rehab company" of a artillery unit. Then released in 23.3.44, probably due to wounds received in Stalingrad. He may have languished in a hospital for awhile before anyone knew where he belonged.

found this werhpass in a junk box at stoneleigh arms fair uk .i asked the dealer if he had any good werhpases he said there all basic ones .this cost me £10 .best find so far this year paul.
