Never thought to see a second one of these that soon.
I also own one of these and it´s the tag of a Prinz Eugen crew member
I managed to buy his personal documents along with the tag- don´t ask for the price.....
My tag also shows this rune and it was told, that there was some kind of "partnership" between the SS unit Prinz Eugen and the battleship crew, wich may have inspired the folks on the ship to ornament their ID tags in that manner.
By the way, there were a lot of men from Austria in the Kriegsmarine, Austria had some naval relevance before and during WW1- even if nobody believes that, nowadays!
Hi Rotti.. I'd say you and Fronti are dead on...
A die stamp of some kind made up right on board ship I've heard. Is your emblem the exact size and shape? or ,they could have had more than one.., G.
Yesterday evening I sat and wondered, if I should search my stuff in order to scan the tag and the papers or to take a photo.
I´ll try to do so as fast as possible, it´s an interesting topic anyway and I am curious in this regard, either.
As far as I can remember, the odal rune looked exactly the same and did not match the tag in any direction, which means it has been stamped on the tag in no geometrical order- just like this one.
Btw. ; If the "right folks" get to see this topic, I´m afraid we´ll find out that the battleship had some 80.000 crew members- mostly issued with 45k-tags in the next few years!
Hi,
I've also have 2 of these in my collection.
I've seen also another one recovered close to Danzig together with a key ring with FP of Prinz Eugen.
All best
