From what I can see by the scans there is nothing wrong with that Wehrpaß.

Your question : "mid war model" no ......look at the date ! 27.3.1941.

Any other info to look at : was he wia/mia/kia ? any awards in it ?
        Any info after 12.5.1941.

All branches used the same models.

Sorry to say that the fine website of Gary T. concerning the Wehrpaß is no longer on line.

        yours friendly

If you require a proper opinion then posting a few entries will not help!

As Eric-Jan has mentioned, this actually in not a mid war example of a Wehrpaß. This is the second model but was actually introduced in 1937.

On the back cover of Wehrpässe there is the printer Metter & Co., under that if there has been an update or reprint to this version of Wehrpaß there is the work Neudruck and the date.

In the example below, it was issued January 1942 but is the second model and was updated in November 1940.

Incidentally Erwin Zarnecke does not appear on the German War Graves site.

It looks like he served with Infanterie Regiment 391 http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...nter/IR391.htm
            of 170 Infanterie Division http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...onen/170ID.htm

            Regards,
            Ian
