          Shield

Should not have been the pictures in the SB's quite some time before this shield was awarded? Must be extremely hard to find a SB with a guy actually wearing one of these things.

          Very nice SB!
It seems that Redviper manages to find a damn good SB about twice a week - lucky guy ... thanks a lot for showing!!!

Hm, now that I think of it ... he has no EK 2 ribbon on his jacket. I wonder when this pictures was taken - surely an interesting SB.

The photo does not show him wearing a Lapplandschild, only a black WB, IAB and his Gebirgsjäger armpatch.

The Lappland, as with other shields was worn on the left arm.

By an incredible stroke of luck i actually have a copy of the original divisional tagesbefehl announcing awards made in the previous weeks.

Your man you will see at number 12 on the list of EKII winners of GJR 206.

note his award was on christmas day, this was some time after the fighting for which he will have earned it, ie. in October against the Finns. As he's not wearing the ribbon in the photo but does have his IAB we can date the photo quite accurately. I can also tell you that at the time the 7 Geb.Div. was occupying a prepared defensive line called the 'Sturmbock Stellung' in North West Finnland. This was occupied until Jan.45 when further postions were ready closer to the Norwegian border. During their time in the Sturmbock positions there was some fighting. It consisted of patrols hunting each other, artillery fire and a few air attacks.

Amazing that Simon had the related paperwork.

Also interesting is the wear of a converted Dutch tunic.
