The entry in the red box says Putzzeuggeld erhalten- cleaning material allowance received, normally RM 5.-.
Can't really make out the top of page 8, looks like Eisernen something but the second word does not look like Portion. Eisernen Portion would mean iron rations....unless it is a genuine mistake and that is why it is crossedout!

Was he demoted? If so you should see the corresponding rank on page 1 and the entry on page 3 confirming his promotion and subsequent demotion.
Wehrsoldgruppe 16 Schützen
Wehrsoldgruppe 15 Gefreiten (also Schützen with over 6 years service).
Was he discharged?
I have an example where he was discharged in January 1944 and recalled September 1944, using his same Soldbuch but in a different unit. The Wehrsoldgruppe was re-entered with his previous rank details....forget what they are at the moment but will try and dig it out.
Is there an entry for Entlassung there somewhere?
Really need to see the whole page rather than small areas....could help!

No idea........could have been a genuine mistake and was entered in the wrongs persons Soldbuch, however unusual to remain a private for that length of time!
Incidentally, other ranks if demoted kept their original documents, only officers were issued with new ones!
I am rereading your post as I am confused......this is a replacement Soldbuch? In that case it could be an error, it is not normal for entries to be copied preceding the date of the replacement Soldbuch.....you say issued May 1943 but the earliest date is 21.8.39???.......
However it could well be a demotion making note of that in the replacement Soldbuch.......without the original documents who knows, however the ranks preceed the Soldbuch.Photos/images copyright © Ian Jewison collection

To clarify, here's Algemeine Heeres Mitteilung 1942, page 281, #519. It shows that if demoted, the field unit sends the Soldbuch to the WBK (officers) or Wehrmeldeamt (NCO, men) and issues a new Soldbuch showing the new rank. Of course rules were never always followed and there is a regulation for how to fill out a second issue book.Attached Files

That is interesting Jeff, I have a few NCO Soldbücher with Rangverlust enterd and they kept their old Soldbuch....however with Officer's, the last entry is normally Rangverlust....a couple I have even has the Kriegsgericht on the reverse!!!
One I can think of lost his rank in 1941 and kept it until at least 1943! If I remember correctly he was a Wachtmeister in 1939 and worked his way back up again.....however after 1943 no idea what happened to him!
