Please help ID this tag

Hello,

This ID tag is a strange one but it definitely identifies this soldier by name, city street and house number, date of birth as well as unit ID - Inf Regt 347 and assigned to MG Komp. By the age I am wondering if this is somehow a WWI tag???

Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!

Yes it's WWI - check the birth date: August 31, 1890 The Infanterie-Regiment Nr.347 was part of the 87. Division

The guy came from Mülhausen - Dornach (Alsace).
Here you will find some nice pictures from the local police of that time (before WWI)

Thank you for this information. This must have been picked up by my grandfather who brought back many items from WWI (as did my father from WWII). Is there an archive where I might find out about the disposition of this individual. Also, I am assuming that the "MG" stamped on the disc stand for Machine Gun Kompanie?

The problem ist that 1945 in the last months of WWII in Berlin the great German Military Archive was bombed and totally burned out. So most of the documents dealing with WWI are not any more existing.
Only the "local" military archives of Bavaria (Munich) or Saxonia (Dresden) are still existing.
