    Photos in Wehrpass

Sorry for this newbie question, but how common was it NOT to have a photo in a wehrpass? Not removed, but never having a photo in it at all.

    Thanks
    Al

Not too common , but usually if it's a repalcement one and no time to find a photo from the soldier, I have seen a couple and all fall into this category.

Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.

In first issues (barring a rare pre-war soldier already serving) it was nigh on impossible to be issued a wehrpass without a photo being present. On second and subsequent issues it was more common but still relatively unusual.

        Hello,

I have a Wehrpaß, first model. The man (infatry) started his Service in November 1935, as Berufssoldat for 12 years, as is mentioned somewhere else in the Wehrpaß (Service until 1947!). The Wehrpaß itsself was started in Oktober 1936 (is the gap of almost a year due to later introduction of the Wehrpaß?). There had never been a photo inside. And the Wehrpaß is in all parts original since everthing else is just ordinary. The man never left the army until he was killed in Russia. So there had always been a chance to add a photo.

        Johannes

PS: Gary, I believe I misunderstood You. Did You say that the Wehrpaß of a man serving before the war, normally had no photo in the Wehrpaß?

No, I meant if you found a first issue WP without a photo it would almost certainly belong to a man who served in the army before the war. But most were issued with photos or had them added at a later date.

Hey I just took a look at your site and think I have found the answer. The pass was probably a re-issue for the next of kin as this poor fellow died Sept 9, 1939 in Poland.

The hand writing is the same on the unit entry page dating back to 1931!! So this was a re issue for sure of some kind.

            Thanks for the help all
