    Legitimate high grade entries

    Hi all,

Up until now, I have been collecting Soldbuchs/Wehrpasses of soldiers with GABs, IABs, EK2s, etc awards. Not taking anything from them, but I was thinking of expanding to CCCs, DKiGs, cufftitles, and up and wanted to get input on what you guys look for, for authenticating. I'm sure EK1 entries are also faked too. Here is an example of a DKiG winner, what do you guys think?

Any suggestions would be great. As of now, I have Emilie Stewart's book for Wehrpasses and Peter Thompson's book on translating, but that's it, and they are nearly 10 years old.

As you probably realize, entries are easier to fake in the Wehrpass, as it was supposed to be keep by the company and only authorised persons could add entries. However, unless a man was KIA and the book was officially closed out, there are often no stamps or signatures to go with the entries. The Soldbuch was different. All awards were to have a stamp and signature with them except for re-issued books, which could have a series of awards with one stamp and signature after the all the entries. That made it harder to fake but off course with all the fake stamps out there, this could be over come. Even at the time, regulations were constantly warning commanders to check for cheating by the men themselves and of course the mistakes made by admin people. The only way to confirm entries was to check for the same stamp or signature elsewhere in the book. This is, of course, was not always possible. Therefore, you have to develope a feel and that can only be found from checking with fellow collectors on forums like this or handling (not looking at images on the computer) many books and comparing entries.

You can verify recipients of the higher awards (DKIG, RK, etc.) via the many lists floating around on the Internet. This does not confirm the authenticity of the actual entry in the wehrpass, but at least it will provide peace of mind regarding any doubt you may harbor toward the individual's entitlement to the award in question.

Paul, do you have any suggestions where I can search for such lists?

Chad, the entry in question looks fine and checks out. Further information regarding confirmation of DKiG award.

If served for something, this piece was several years in my collection and I have not seen any problem with it.

Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.
