    Erkennungmarke Pol. W. Btl. Opinions?

Hi dear members. Please help me with this dog tag. First of all, is it original? It has been resoldered as you can see. And dealing with the engraved inscription, could anybody tell me anything about this barallion? 129 2./Pol. W.Btl. I/Ostpr. What do those abbreviations stand for? If it's a Polizei Wacht Battalion, it belonged to the Wehrmacht or to the Waffen SS?

    Thanks in advance!

Polizei-Wachbataillon I Ostpreußen guarded things. It consisted of older men and was not used for combat. In the third week of January 1945, it was probably swallowed up and destroyed in the heavy fighting as the Soviets rolled over East Prussia or absorbed into Kampfgruppe Schuberth that was part of the garrison of Festung Königsberg, January - April 1945.

          Postscript:
Polizei-Wach-Btle. in Wehrkreis I (Ostpreußen) - According to the source cited below, the first Polizei-Wach-Btl. Ostpreußen was formed in February 1943 and a second Polizei-Wach-Btl. Ostpreußen was set up two months later in April 1943. All of the Polizei-Wach-Btle. were designated after their Wehrkreis, so after the second Btl. was set up they were designated I. Polizei-Wachbataillon I and II. Polizei-Wachbataillon I. Both Btle. (I. and II.) were employed in the Białystok area during 1943 and 1944 where the Białystok Ghetto of 30,000 - 45,000 Jews was surrounded and "evacuation" begun on 15 August 1943. The two Btle. also were used to clear Jewish partisans from the woods around the Białystok area. Both of the actions were under the over all command of SS-Pol.Rgt. 24. Both Btle. were disbanded in summer 1944. A short time later, on 29 August 1944, orders were issued to set up a Polizei-Wach-Btl. I in the Zichenau (Ciechanów) area of what was then Ostpreußen. In December 1944 this new Btl. was mobilized and assigned Feldpostnummer 66164.
