    WP Geb.Jäg.Brigade 139 / Lapplandshield and more

    Hello,

here are my newest Wehrpass. Nice ist for me, that the soldier fight from the march 1945 with the Gebirgsjäger-Brigade 139. 1945 they was called Gebirgsjäger-Brigade "Generaloberst Dietl" too.

Its a "Zweitschrift" Wehrpass, but they are nice fight entrys....ek2 and lapplandshield entry too.

I have a question, is it normally or ok, that the unit entry is "Gebirgsjäger-Brigade 139" and not Gebirgsjäger-Brigade "Generaloberst Dietl"?

I hope someone can help me with this question.

    Greets Ronnie

The full title was Gebirgsjäger Brigade 139 "Generaloberst Dietl". At the time your man joined the unit it was during the planned expansion of Divisions gruppe Kräutler into what became the 9 Gebirgs Division just before the end of the war. In fact the division was still working up to full strength at the end and was the third strongest division left in Norway by May '45 (behind the 6 and 7 GD). The brigade had also reverted back to the title regiment by then but the stamps used had not been changed yet.
His transfer from the field replacement btl. of the 6 GD reflects the transfer of men from other units in order to build the new division. I have similar WP\SB that also reflect this.

The EKII of course was earned during heavy fighting of the Oct.44 Soviet offensive against the XIX Geb.Korps which saw the russians push all the way into Norway.

What was his rank and job? He spent over a year with Feld ersatz Btl.118, and was relatively old when called up.

                    Hello Simon,

thank you very much for this informations

Also is it ok, when the unit entry is like in this Wehrpass....also not the full unit title?

His job in the civil life was "landkencht" also work at the field and so. His rank was at 01.07.1944 "Gefreiter" stamp from the Feld ersatz Btl.118

                    Thanks and greets Ronnie

yes, the entry is fine. Pity you don't have the award docs to go with it.
