Some panzerjäger or Panzergrenadier hast worn this STUG Wrapper so it is not unusual... The curios on your Photo he wear the first shoulder boards from 1938...

Very nice Ersatz Soldbuch Thomas. Great photo. Looks like he is still wearing his Sportsabzeichen! Besides taking part in delaying actions during and after the collapse at Normandy, he was also in the Eifel and Aachen areas.

                          Grenadier-Regiment 1056

                          Thomas, laut Lexikon der Wehrmacht:

                          Grenadier-Regiment 1056
Aufgestellt am 3. Februar 1944 in Baumholder aus dem Grenadier-Regiment 1025 für die 91. Infanterie-Division. Das Regiment wurde im Juli 1944 in der Normandie vernichtet.

Neu aufgestellt im Oktober 1944 in der Eifel für die 344. Infanterie-Division.

                          Das Soldbuch ist ein Hammer!

A very interesting combination. Note that he got the silver IAB not the GAB which would have been the case had he been panzerjäger. If you can find a TO&E for the stabskompanie of Gren.Rgt.1056 then it might give us a clue as to why he's wearing a sturmartillerie jacket.

On a side note, the army carried out troop field trials of a new uniform during the second half of 1943 which included the fieldgrey wrapper.
