    Feb 45 Soldbuch

    Hello

I picked up a couple of Soldbuchs recently, both Luftwaffe, I have started to decipher the contents and found some interesting things, I also thought it would be an idea to google earth the address and other towns written in, this late war book has no photo but instead a piece of paper which I have translated partially that he was called up at short notice as he was working (I was not able at present to translate the rest here)

This poor chap was issued few items of equipment, no helmet nor sidecap !

I see he was with a heavy flak battery, I wondered if anyone might be able to tell me if this was anti-aircraft as I am thinking it is?

I was trying to work out his previous occupation if anyone might be able to help, I see Ziegler? Arbeiter (worker)

anyway any help comments are greatly appreciated, here are a few images

    Thanks

    John

any info on this would be very helpful, am off to search Lexicon again

and thats all the entries there are, the other one I picked up is more comprehensive but am in the process of resizing images so will add that one soon,

                      The Flak-Ers.Abt. 36 started 26 Aug 1939 in Wolfenbüttel (Flak-Ers.Rgt. 2).
                      1 July 1941 they stated a Flak-Ausb.Abt. 36 wich later changed name 1943 in Flak-Abt. 666.
The origin Flak-Ers.Abt. 36 remained in Wolfenbüttel.

                        Edit:

Forgott something important and interesting things...

In Duingen there was a slave labourer camp and POW camp in the hills. If my remembering is right, than there were italian POWs in it.
They have to work in a mine and were involved, producing aircraft parts for the Jäger-Notprogramm. (In this mine)

                        Some funny stuff from Duingen:

Do you remember the fairy-tale from Snow White and the 7 dwarfs ?
In the near of Duingen there is a mountain chain, called seven hills. At this location the story of Snow White and the 7 dwarfs played.
The authors of the fairy tale (Brothers Grimm) make a rest at this area and composed the story.

                          thanks Gerden and Fronti

thats very helpful, I guess he wasn't called up till late as he was employed in an essential job,
sounds like an idustrial area, funny the snow white story is from the area also

can only imagine what operation he had on his stomach

                          thanks

                            Hello

There are 5 Mendes`s still living in Duingen.

Try a search at the german telefonbook.

                            http://www1.dasoertliche.de

Put the name into the field "Name" and in the field "Ort oder PLZ oder Vorwahl" just type Duingen.

                            Best regards, Fronti

                              Hi Fronti

Well I didn't think about relatives, 5 Mendes living in that town !

I do speak German but it is very minimal, perhaps I should think about further investigation

                              Thanks for that

                              John
