Hi all, thought I`d share this new addition to my collection, while its half time at the football, (Scotland 0 Germany 1). The wehrpass is to a guy born in 1902 who spent a few years in several Luftwaffe enginer units and then a flying school, then it gets interesting, in June of 1944 he was transferred to Sonderinspektion Jagerstab Nordhausen, a camouflage name for the secret underground V weapon factory near Nordhausen. In September 1944 he was transferred to the SS Totenkopf Sturmbann Mittelbau, the guards unit of the same factory. Its not clear to me what this guy did during his service, but to say that the slave labour force at the factory had a tough time is an understatment, it was basically a concentration camp. The factory was liberated by the American 104th Infantry Division in April 1945 who found the corpses of more than 3000 slave workers.
It makes my worrying about the score at the football all a bit petty and unimportant compared to the suffering to others during the war.
Cheers
Ian
