    Hello All,
I recently bought a batch of wehrmacht photos at the local fleamarket - one has a group photo with a lad holding sign stating feldpostnummer 08034 could anyone please tell me which regiment / unit the number was for. Also could anyone please tell me where the RAD Abt. 300 /9 were based.
    Regards

    Depends on the time scale:

    FP Nr. 08034

    (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 4. Kompanie Bau-Bataillon 90,
    (2.1.1940-27.4.1940) cancelled
    (28.4.1940-14.9.1940) Verpflegungs-Amt Tirlemont and cancelled
    (15.9.1940-31.1.1941) Regimentsstab Infanterie-Regiment 577,
    (25.1.1943-31.7.1943) destroyed, (Stalingrad),
    (1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 11.2.1944 2.Treibstoff-Kolonne Artillerie-Abteilung 836,
    (7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 5.3.1945 cancelled.

      Hello Ian,
As ever many thanks for the prompt reply and information. As a point of interest. The two year gap between 31/1/41 - 25/1/43 dates - what would be a possible reason - number decommissioned - not traceable - whatever? Thanks again.
      Regards

Larry DeZeng's post in this thread does a good job in explaining some of what I believe you are looking for: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ight=means+FpN

The dates are confusing if you do not understand them, plus you need the unit information to get a true picture!:

          (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 4. Kompanie Bau-Bataillon 90,
          (2.1.1940-27.4.1940) cancelled
          (28.4.1940-14.9.1940) Verpflegungs-Amt Tirlemont and cancelled
          (15.9.1940-31.1.1941) Regimentsstab Infanterie-Regiment 577,
          (25.1.1943-31.7.1943) destroyed, (Stalingrad),
          (1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 11.2.1944 2.Treibstoff-Kolonne Artillerie-Abteilung 836,
          (7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 5.3.1945 cancelled.

Firstly the FP Nr. was given to 4. Kompanie Bau-Bataillon 90 between the dates of mobilisation (26.8.1939) and 1.1.1940, however sometime between 2.1.1940 and 27.4.1940 it was cancelled.

Again between the dated 28.4.1940 and 14.9.40 it was given to Verpflegungs-Amt Tirlemont, but during this same time frame it was also cancelled.

In the case you mention between 15.9.1940 and 31.1.1941 it was given to Regimentsstab Infanterie-Regiment 577 and remained with that unit until sometime between 25.1.1943 and 31.7.1943 when it was destroyed at Stalingrad.
In reality this unit was formed 5.12.1940, dates quoted in FP Übersicht 15.9.1940 to 31.1.1941 and destroyed at Stalingrad during January 1943. Again dated quoted in FP Übersicht 25.1.1943 and 31.7.1943.
Also bear in mind that these are dates when the FP nr. was registered against that particular unit and not when the unit was formed/destroyed/renamed etc.

          Hope that helps a bit?

          /Ian
