This is the wehrpass and group to Hptm. Hans Bornheim. Bornheim was posthumously awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold. He spent most of his time with the 328th Grenadier Regiment of the 227th Infantry Division. He was killed on the outskirts of Leningrad, during the finals days of the two and a half year "Siege." In addition to the DKIG, Bornheim was the recipient of the Westwall Medal, Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Schwarz, Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse, Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen, and Ostmedaille.
Some of you may recognize the wehrpass and the group. It was purchased from Gary T. Thank you, Gary, for allowing me the opportunity to add such a great piece of history to my collection.
In addition to the wehrpass, documents, and images, the group also included an oil painting of Bornheim. I'll try and take a picture of that sometime and put it up.
I particularly love the photographs that are a part of this group. There is an innocence about the man that comes through in the photos. The image of him playing the accordion is particularly poignant. As are the studio photos of him.
Hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do.
