Translation help please

I cannot get my head around this entry on the training pages of my most recent WP. The soldier in question served in the panzer jaegers in the early war but all the mid and late war trainning is realted to being a field-cook, he was a pastry chef in civvie life. He must have been wounded as he was inspected medically many times, and this may have caused his removal from the front lines.

Any help would be most welcome.

One other thing he also had a ful military drivers lisence but alongside the entries for it in the WP i get the word Melder. Is it a deriviative of the verb to register?
