Obergefreiter Friedrich "Fritz" Kalcyk was issued his wehrpass on July 31, 1940 from Wehrbezirkkommando Döbeln, which was located within Wehrkreis IV. He served as a courier from Nov. '40 to Oct. '41 with Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 418 of the 123. Infanterie-Division. After recovering from being shot through his left foot, he joined his unit again in Sept. '42 while they were still involved in the Russian campaign. In February of '43 he finally sustained the injuries that would be his ticket out of the Heer; he had a case of frost bite to both of his feet. He was discharged, medically unfit for active military service in May of '43. He was the recipient of the Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen, Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse and Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Schwarz.
You can't keep a dedicated man down for too long. In April '44 he joined the Organisation Todt and worked as a clerk with Org. Todt unit "Fuchs" in France. Does anyone know anything about this unit? I have been unable to find any information on it. Maybe they were involved in the "V" weapons program?
