high numbers on SS Erk marks

Hallo , so I hope so one can give me a definative answer on numbers on SS Erks.....I have been told by several people that the numbers rarely went above 2000 ,but I have seen numerous ones now that go into the 6000s and even 7000s...so whats correct? Danke ! Norbert
