Going rates of Soldbuchs & Wehrpasses

    Hello everyone,

I know this question isn't easy to answer. But what are the going price ranges going for Wehrpasses & Soldbuchs?

I would like to get a small collection of them together, what should I look for that would help me determain the value? Are Luftwaffe worth more than Heer? What would be a minimum price for an SS Soldbuch or Wehrpass. Are KIA passes of any branch worth more?

I know there is no easy answer, but any help or info is appreciated. I got a gun show coming up this Sunday and might be buying one.

    Cheers,

I'd say about $20.00 for one issued to an "old-timer" with no military entries up to $250,000 for Rommel's.

    Add extra for SS.

Seriously, you gotta look at what you want. If you just want something to look good in a display case, go cheap. If you have a unit you collect, or branch of service, or theater of operations, that'd help. The more awards, the higher the price. Condition counts for alot too, but not as much as in "normal" award documents.

I believe KM is a bit higher than Heer, and they all depend on units (front line, rear areas, etc.).

Normal books should be somewhere between $20 as mentioned above, up to a few hundred $$$s.

Thanks for the info Hank, currently I have an old timers Wehrpass I paid accordingly for.

I was thinking of getting a Soldbuch, nothing specific... but something with a bit more info and history. I would REALLY love to get an SS Soldbuch. I can't imagine getting one for under $200... maybe even more for a basic SS?

Just out of curiosity... does someone actually own Rommel's Wehrpass or Soldbuch?? Did such famous people even have one?

You can find a good selection of soldbuchs & wehrpasses at www.janssen-militaria.com (a European dealer) for all the service arms with prices ranging from $60 upwards, or you can find quite a few for sale on this site's E-stand.
As for Rommel's soldbuch I believe that it is up for auction in Germany this month as well as Manstein's promotion documents and other high profile personality related paperwork.

Mr. Peter Janssen at www.janssen-militaria.com is a "First Class" fellow all around, and someone that I highly recommend.

Knowledgeable, trustworthy, and a person of integrity personally and professionally, you will not be disappointed in any dealings you have with Peter Janssen.

I agree 100%. I have purchased some very nice Soldbücher from his site over the last few years, and IMHO he is one of the most professional militaria dealers I've had the pleasure of doing business with.

'fame' has nothing to do with it. Rommel was as much a soldier as private Schulze and therefore had the paperwork required.

I think the reason Hank mentions Rommel is because his is coming up for sale soon.

A Wehrpass usually has far more information in it than a Soldbuch and tends to be less expensive. The Soldbuch was carried with the soldier and the Wehrpass with the unit (the Wehrstammbuch at the home unit in Germany). If it has the text at the top "Zweitschrift" it is a second issue due to loss and this could be the case with the Soldbuch or the Wehrpass if the unit was overrun etc. A "Zweitschrift is normally less expensive, but once again this depends on the unit as well as awards received. Over here it is hard to get a decent SS Soldbuch for under Euro 200. It tends to be a better investment to go for a higher quality Soldbuch or Wehrpass if your finances allow it, and I personally prefer a Soldbuch that is in ratty condition but with good entries to one that is near mint (the soldier did'nt do much!). If it is possible to get the matching dogtag as listed in the Soldbuch or Wehrpass it is even better as well as more documentation.

                  good hunting!
