    Stamm Kp.G.E.B. 185

    I'm thinking that it translate into: "Regular Company Grenadier 1st Battalion"

    But what is the 185 stand for?

    It is a Infanterie Remplacement unit.

      So those the Stamm means replacement? Also I'm to translate Ersatz as
      "1st" and then I do not know what the 185 stands for other than a unit number of the Battalion,.....

        By "Stamm" you have to inderstand all the instruction companie of the unit !

        Ersatz is remplacement !

        Stamm-Kp./G.E.B. 185 is :

        instruction companie oth the 185 th remplacement infanterie Battalion.

          Translates as: Cadre Company/Grenadier Replacement Battalion 185.

          Gee willikers, Steve, get yourself a German-English dictionary, preferably a military one. If you don't want to shell out $25 bucks for that, then use Google and search for German military terms. Just about every World War II Axis forces web site has one.
