Hello Mark,
I will try:
SS.-Ersatz-Bataillon Ost was errected March 15th 1941 in Breslau as replacement unit for SS-Infantry-Regiments 4, 5, 9, 10 and 14 which had been Totenkopfstandarden with the same numbers before. These units were under the command of Commander of the Waffen-SS in southeast (Europe). Later the Bataillon was divided into an Ausbildungs-Bataillon (training) and Ersatz-Bataillon (replacement) in S<!-->hitomir and Breslau respectively. On November 1st 1943 the names of both units were changed into Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 31 und Grenadier-Ausbildungs-Bataillon 31.
There must be more infos in Tessin under No. 31, Waffen-SS. But unfortunately I do not have this volume at hand. Maybe someone else can provide more information.
