    Dog Tag

    Hi guys, i am a new member of this forum.
    Can you give me some information about this dog tag (in figure)?
    I have found it in a forest near Rome.
    It is possible to know the name of the soldier?

    The words on the dog tag: A 2318 Stamm Batterie S. Art. Ers. U. Ausb. Abt. (mot.) 54

    The dogtag is from a soldier of the Stamm Batterie /schwere Artillerie Ersatz und Ausbildungs Abteilung (motorisiert) 54.
    (Heavy artillery replacement and training Abteilung (motorised) 54)

    The bloodgroup is A and the personal (dogtag) number is 2318.

    Your dogtag was printed after 10.4.1942.

    It is impossible for a non-family member to get the name from the Wast.

      Stammbatterie is difficult to directly translate into an English equivalent, but Permanent Cadre Battery, Permanent Staff Battery or Cadre Battery would all work.

        I would say cadre is the nearest translation, because staff could mean stab.

          Agreed. "Cadre" is the best fit and is a word that was widely used by the U.S. Army im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Although in the WW II U.S. Army a Cadre Company or Cadre Battery usually consisted of no more than 40 to 50 officers, senior NCOs and clerks. These were stay-behind personnel that gave the unit a semi-permanent footing in its Standort.
