    Help W/ KZ Ausweis's

I have been seeing alot of Concentration Camp Guard Ausweis's from Craig Gottliebs website. Does anyone know where these are all of sudden coming from? I did not know such ausweis existed. I thought they used there Wehrpass/Soldbuch only for ID purposes. They are very neat looking cards but very high dollar.

    Thanks

    They are original.
These type of ID card was used to pass the sentries in the KL or the KL barrack camp.
Not every guard was allowed to enter every part of the KL.
Also if you look closely, you'll see that they are all made invalid (a stripe across the ID card).

Where do you think they come from?
    ...
A tip they don't grow on trees.

    Cheers,
    Peter

I echo my friend Peter's comments. These Ausweis are unquestionably original and quite rare. The prices are more than I would pay for sure, but then it's Craig Gottlieb so you have to expect ridiculous prices that cater to the rich and privileged.

      Regardless, the Ausweis are original.

As for where they came from, well... My guess would be that a collector consigned or sold several pieces from his/her collection. Whoever did sell/consign these to Craig did an incredible job putting together one hell of a KL Ausweis collection!

          Hi Phil,

          www.craiggottlieb.com

They are both listed in the document section and also in the photo/paper section.
Two example of KL Gross Rosen & one of KL Auschwitz.

          Cheers
          P

thanks for the link peter, WOW lots of money, but if i was a film or pop star, instead of sticking sh2t up my nose and laying out for $200,000 parties , this is what i would buy in the hundred weight, real KZ history, rarer than raymond griffiths buying a drink

Looks like they - or something similar - are back up on the History Hunter auction.

There are also a lot of reproductions of these out there. Just watch eBay or check this forum for examples.

I can offer my own perspective ... these showed up in Kassel from a document picker about 5 years ago, and were snapped up by various dealers and collectors. ALL 100% original. This set is from that small hoard. I saw the stack - there were about 20 or 30 in all, from various camps. I saw Auschwitz, Gross Rosen, Sachsenhausen. I don't know why there were so many different camps in one stack, but maybe they had been sent back to one central office, and stored. Who knows. They sold for $4000 to $5000 when first out, but the price has dropped steadily. I'd say $1000 to $2000 is now a "fair" price.

Thanks for the info on the market value. It just shows that demand has a greater influence than supply on the price. Genuinely rare and historic SS items like these go down in value, while the relatively common SS EM daggers and Dachau cloth keep going up. Once again, go figure.

Well, Hartmann\985 from Gross Rosen went for $860.00, I must confess I woulnd't have expected it but prices are severely dropping even for ultra-rare paperwork stuff like this.

I guess I got a steal on this one. Was searching a long time for one, but they were all +2000 dollar orso..
I thought I would not have it, but I did

Well, congrats then, that's a nice original!
That's sure a steal but I also suspect such kind of paperwork gonna drop e bit more in the future for variuous reasons like economical crisis and then "provenance" of quite a few of them, just to say two.
There are quite a few around and they don't sell for 2000$+ as they did before.

Quite possible, because it seems that a lot of collectables aren't 'moving' like they did some years ago.
I notice that also on the e-stand.

Yes, I think that was a "steal" for sure. Not EVERYTHING was a steal by an stretch of the imagination, but the diligent bidder could really do well, and did apparently!
