Just going through some of my collection...

    and came across this one:

The Soldbuch of a Gefreiter who served with II/Panzer Regiment "Brandenburg".
However I have never been able for sure to decipher his Company.
    Is it
    Werkstatt Kompanie
    or
    Werfer Kompanie
    or
    something else?

He also served with "Einheit Gutschmidt!?!?!

    Cheers, Ian

I really applaud those of you that can read any of that. Despite being in a second language to me, I seriously doubt I could read any of that in English either =P

      Hello Ian.
I am more inclined to read "Jg.Rgt." not Pz.Rgt. and "Vers. Komp. "(Versorgungs Kompanie).

        Hi Bernhard,

Yes I can see Jg.Rgt. instead of Pz....read it that way as he was in Pz.Ers. units....but it does not look like Vers. to me?!?! Could be...may be Verf. as in Verfügungs?

Heres another that ended up in a Versorgungs Kompanie...different handwriting but there is a resemblence with the "s".

          Hello Ian,

this definitely looks like "Versorgungs Kompanie" to me.

          All the best,

          Christian

            Thanks Christian,

I think it must be "Vers" but the last letter looks like an "f" a bit don't you think?

Now I need to find out who Oblt. Gutschmidt was!?!?!?! Not an easy task....

            /Ian

Yeah, that's the "middle of words" letter s that lookks like a / instead of the little curlicue version if it was the last letter of a word. The "middle version" is used in abbreviations even when coming last.

Well, it seems to look like an "f", but if you look at the words "Ers" and "Großdeutschland" a few lines below, you'll see that it definitely is an "s". "S" written in Sütterlin nearly always looked like that.
