    Jagdtiger Erkennungsmarke?

Does anyone have any information on motorisierte Jagd Staffel Saarlautern 1/3 (motorized Hunting Section Saarlautern 1/3)? The tag is definitely a real one and definitely Army, not Luftwaffe. Does anyone know of any armored units that were stationed in Saarlautern? All opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance. Barry

Sounds like a Volkssturm unit to me?

Staffel sounds like Luftwaffe, sorry !

      Best regards, Fronti

      P.S.:
The Panzer-Jagd-Brigade Dora has one dead Soldier in Saarlautern in Januar 1945.

I beg to differ. I have been studying Luftwaffe units for almost twenty-five years and there is no such thing as a motorized Jagd Staffel. The term Staffel was not unique to the Luftwaffe. Let's keep trying. A friend of mine just e-mailed me and said that Volkssturm might be a good candidate because of the odd terminology.

It doesn't correlate with anything I've ever seen before. However, the words "Mot." and "Jagd" and "Staffel" in the designation reminds me of Feldjäger units or possibly the Heeresstreifendienst. Another possibility might be a Grenz- unit.

In the Heer the term 'staffel' was used for components of a unit that weren't a sub-unit in their own right. For example nachrichtenstaffel

I could well imagine the Volkssturm of Saarlautern forming a motorised element from whatever vehicles they could scrape together. I doubt very much it was armoured in anyway and at most had panzerfaust\panzerschreck.

I haven't collected tags in a long while.. IF I do see a weird one I'll occasionally pick it up.. I saw this tag in hand this past Saturday. It has the look of a good one for sure. So,it was weird enough for me and I now own it.
Giving this a bump to the top to see if any new information surfaces..Thanks ,G.
