    Some WP entries

    Hello guys,

Here's some bits and pieces of a recently acquired Wehrpass of an Oberfeldwebel who earned at least the DRL Sportabzeichen, KVK 2nd class, EK2 and EK1. As a truck driver he participated in the invasion in Holland, Belgium and France. He stayed in the latter on both the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, and in 1944 should have fought against the US forces near Saint-Lo and Caen.

However, I have some concerns with some entries and was hoping someone might clarify these.

Let's start with this entry on page 21, one on the few I cannot read.. could someone please transcribe this?

Second is a part of his awards. It's a bit strange his KVK2 from 1943 is written on top of his EK2 from 1940. But my biggest concern is with the entry in the middle, which looks to be written with a modern pen. I think it is for the KVK1 and is dated to 26th of April 1943. Would it not be strange for a lorry driver to own both the KVK1 and EK1?

First: Shooting award and Reichs Sports Badge in Bronze (D.R.L.)

Second: Yes...that KVK 1 Kl. m/S does look odd and in ball point pen!!! Is there the impression from the pen on the rear!?!?!?

The date is not wrong though for that award.......problem with some of these documents is the owner could well have been entitled to it but he entered it himself post war!!!

This is on page 35. Perhaps someone could decipher the abbreviations?

As a sidenote, this may have something to do with the previous KVK1 entry, as it dates only two days after, the 28th of April 1943.

Thanks Ian! The DRL badge is entered on page 4 as well as "Reichssportabzeichen".

Here's the EK1 entry. I don't have any problems with it, but would love to hear some second opinions.

K.V. means Kriegsverwundungsfähig, which means he is fit for active duty!

And last, these are the 1944 Normandy entries. Though they got the month wrong (6th of May instead of 6th of June), I don't have any problems with these as well. I can imagine it would be more likely for a clerk at the end of the war to make such a mistake than for a post-war faker adding these desirable entries.

And the last of the battle entries, which stop with a faded Feldpost stamp at the 2nd of september 1944 when he reached the German border.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The EK I appears to have been awarded by the correct unit (see below)....although written in a large pen it appears to be ok! Has it been overwritten????

                  Nachschub-Kolonnen-Abteilung 595

                  Formed 7.9.1940 in the west with 6. Armee wiht 3, since December 1940 6 großen Kw.Kolonnen; added on 20.8.1941 a große Kw.Kolonne für Betriebsstoff;
                  Renamed Kraftfahr-Abteilung 595 1.4.1943 from the großen Kw.Kolonnen der Nachschub-Kolonnen-Abteilung 595, 596 and 552 with Ob. West and with 6 Companies.

Under: Army troops in the west (6. Armee), 1943 15. Armee, later 7. Armee, 1944/45 19. Armee Oberrhein (2.-4. Kompanie: 7. Armee Eifel)

                  Replacements: 25 Müllheim, WK V

                    Hi Tim,

A lorrydriver with high combat awards, always intresting!

                    Cheers,

Ian and Peter, thank you both.
I have not found any signs the EK1 entry has been overwritten.
Here's a list of his units, which seems to fit nicely in Ian's unit information.

Two things crossed my mind concerning the awards.

                        1. Would it not be strange to get both the KVK2 and KVK1 within 3 months?
                        2. Should I interprete that he got his EK1 for actions with the 7th Armee at the end of 1943? Would that not be strange, since he was basically just drinking wine at the French coast at that time?

Thanks to Gerdan for spotting my deliberate spelling mistake...........K.V. means Kriegsverwendungsfähig

                            1) It's not strange for KVK's to be awarded so close to each other.....what is strange is that entry for the KVK I!!!! I did not notice yesterday but not only does it appear to be written in pen, squeezed in but the authorising officer's signature "Bauer" is also there!?!?!?

Again the guy could have been entitled to it and entered it himself...why bother otherwise just entering a KVK in a combat book?

                            2) If you read the unit info again, you will see that the unit was under 7 Armee in 1943, however also when the majority of the unit came under 19 Armee in 1944/45, 2-4 Companies remained with 7 Armee..........your man was with 3 Kompanie!

                            /Ian

Incidentally A39 mean he was fit for active duty but had a problem with "Deformations of the oral cavity and the throat"!!!
