His life was came to a tragic end on 26.10.1942 whilst driving a Panzerspahwagen he drove into enemy cross fire killing him instantly. Three other members of the Company were severly wounded.

He was buried one day later in Terek.

I wondered what that was...sorry never heard of that type of aircraft before but thanks for pointing it out.
After a quick search it was a French bomber?

Ian, what was his unit at the time of his death? I found interesting the note in the newspaper, Panzerjager and Flak together.

Can also show us the entry for the Flakkampfabzeichen?

Is there any other shot down note in his diary?

              Thanks

              Angel

                Angel,

Prior to outbreak of war he served with 1 Kp., Maschinengewehr Bataillon 66. 16.8.39 he transferred to 4 Kp., Fla Batallon 66. This was an independant unit attached to 13 Inf.Div.(mot.), later 13 Pz.Div.
Sometime in 1942 the Company was absorbed into Panzerjäger Abteilung 13 as 3 (Fla) Kp.

Thus answering your question on his unit...he actually remained with Fla all the time...just the unit was absorbed into 13 Pz.Div.........

I still need to research this group further so can not answer all your questions, however there is no entry in the Wehrpaß for the Heeres Flakabzeichen or the rümanien Verdienstkreuz. The Wehrpaß was closed 1.11.1942 and sent to the family 8.1.1943.

The only ciations that were with the group are Wound Badge in Black and Sturmabzeichen......these being awarded prior to his death but not made out until after......

                /Ian

Nice group, I bet you will have a lot of fun during its research.

Do you know what Order of Battle has a Panzerjager Abteilung? I wonder if all has a Flak company named 3, I usually see that all has three companies equiped with towed guns and, later two with armored vehicles and the third with towed guns.

I always has a special interest in Heer Flak personal.

Don't have my 13 Inf.Div./Pz.Div. book to hand but MG Btl 66 was renamed Fla Btl. 66 in 1939....I am sure I read that 4 Kp. was independant to the rest of the Battalion, so not sure if all 4 Companies were integrated into Pz.Jäg.Abt. 13 or just the one!

Will let you know more tomorrow after I have had a sleep!!!

                    /Ian

                      Koch says:

                      <b>1./66</b> = 33.Inf.Div./Heerestruppe <b>2./66</b> = 34.Inf.Div./HTr/101.J&auml;g.Div. <b>3./66</b> = 36.Inf.Div./HTr <b>4./66</b> = 13.Inf.Div.(mot)/13.Pz.Div. <b>5./66</b> = 4.Pz.Div. <b>6./66</b> = HTr/16.Pz.Div.

                      4./66 became 4./H.-Flakabt.271, 5./66 became 4./H.-Flakabt.290 later.
