I don't see anything wrong with this one. I have one StabII/Lett SS Frw. Regt.1 tag and it looks very much the same.

Whys it normal? I would have thought that it being a named divisional dogtag (as opposed to a Ers. tag), that a bloodgroup would have been on it somewhere? I know a Latvian vet from the 15th SS Division. I might try and find out if it was stamped on his tag.

The bloodgroup should be on it, but it is not a must !

In my collection there are some 800 dogtags. I think only 60% from this tags have a bloodgroup stamping.

On Waffen SS dogtags, the bloodroup stamping is rarer than on Heeres or Luftwaffen dogtags.

I will try and catch up with my Latvian friend. Even though he is in his high '70's, he tends to remember fine points. He has told some great stories about the last couple of years of the war (when he fought).

I know some SS members had their blood group tattooed on their arms, but I still find it hard to believe that a front line unit would not ensure that it's members had the blood group stamped on their id discs. But I know there can always be exceptions to the rule.......

Does anybody else have scans of Latvian SS Divisional dogtags to show us?
