Second pattern of Km tags. This soldier was enlisted in 1944.

Christof: Does this mean such smaller KM dogtags were produced in 1944? I have one too and also wondered why they were smaller in size.

No ! It means, that smaller dogtags are generally from Kriegsmarine.

Heer, Luftwaffe, Police and Waffen SS have normal sized dogtags, Kriegsmarine have the smaller ones.

Some KM discs are made of brass and some are made of gold colored aluminum. Some have letters in front of the number, and if a K preceeds the date it is for Koastal artillery. Sometime the blood group is on the disc sometimes not as in this disc's case
