    a dumb rookie question

    Hello all I recently picked up a photo album from a Luftwaffe soldier and in it were a number of Ausweis. I do not collect paper items except photos, so I no nothing about these. I can see the fellows FP number, and it is for Paris.
    I am thinking this is a travel pass? Also any help on the feld post# would be greatly appreciated.

    This is a "permission slip" to be in the Inner City of Paris. Issued on 7 June, good to 21 June. Maximum allowable time (as written on the right edge of the card) is not to exceed 14 days.

    They issued these to make sure whoever was in Paris was allowed or supposed to be in Paris, not just somebody there for the heck of it.

      FpN L 29725 was for Luftnachrichten-Ausbau-Kp. 6. These people did all of the installation engineering work on large Luftwaffe signals facilities, such as command posts, central switching and relay centers, radio beacon and transmitter sites, air traffic control and safety centers, landing systems for airfields, etc. This company was definitely in West France in 1943, probably near Paris.

        Thanks guys! Not only was this fellow in Paris but his unit was in Russia as noted in this ausweis. Note the same feldpost number but no date.

          Some additional information: Ln.-Ausbau-Kp. 6 (L 29725) and its parent, Ln.-Ausbau-Stab 6 (L 24640), were in France until May 1941. They then moved to Bucharest/Romania, and in August 1941 began moving from installation job to installation job across western and central Ukraine and then into Crimea. On 18.2.43 they were ordered back to Bucharest, and some months later they were ordered to Chantilly, about 48 km NNE of Paris. They were still in Chantilly in late March 1944, then moved to Paris during the second half of June. In France, they came under the Höhere Nachrichtenführer (chief signals officer)/Luftflotte 3. Following the German retreat from France, they were sent to Pfaffenhofen near Munich and assigned to the 7. Jagddivision to maintain and update fighter control centers.

            Thanks again for the great help! It all fits with what I am seeing in the album. In fact I will look closer but I do think he may have joined the unit in Russia as that is when it appears the photos start.
