Enfin! Of course I will, right when I get home tonight! Can you imagine some of the foto of the men who we have in books, probably meet and talked to each other everyday. Odd.

Paul Schölling 1./Festungs Inf. Batl. 1002

This is Unteroffizier Paul Schölling. He began service with various Landschützen Batls., Antipartisan duties in the east and service in prison camps. In 1943, he found his way to the Island on Leros, then Rhodos. Here Ulysses Schölling remained until the end of the war.

And for all that service, all the Dreck in Russia and the Balkans and the Staub auf Leros und Rhodo he is awarded - the KVK 2. Klasse m. Schwerten...

The document is signed by Gen.d. Pz. Trp. Ulrich Kleeman, this is probably one of the last documents that he signed since he commanded the division from June 1943 till 1. Sept. 1944.

As the list of actions in his Wehrpass are the battles against Partisanen, Banden, versprengte Feindgruppierungen - he was doing this for over one year! And no Anti Partisan badge. I suppose he was in the rear area?

Then I underlined the islands that he served on. Perhaps of some interest....

I should also mention that Scholling took part in a short Scharschuetzen Lehrgang in April 1945. Of course, he is not, was never a sniper...but I also saw the same exact entry in another Wehrpass for sale a few weeks ago. I was not successful in my bid.

Thanks Polux and Eric for sharing, I will post some images later. I have currently 2 Wehrpäße and 1 Soldbuch regarding Rhodos, they don't appear often, three years and three books (and lost one in auction... seen total 4)...

Polux, I know the Soldbuch because once you showed it to a friend of mine.

Once I scanned Mehner (Geheime Tagesberichte) for Rhodos-related entries. There over 40, from August 1943 (Band 7) to September 1944 (Band 11). Constant air supply, conflict against British commandos, sunken ships (Leda, Petrera, Oria)...

Pionier Stanislaus Kapinos, 3./Pi.Btl.999, was born on May 1902 in Schammerwitz only to die in Rhodos in an accident in a (possibly friendly) mine field in September 1943. He died in Ortlazarett (or Reservelazarett, says the Wehrpaß ) Monte Profeta, far away from his home in Hildesheim. His grave is in Dionyssos-Rapendoza, vault 3 row 15 plate 5.
