    Dutch Waffen-SS Officer WP

    Hi folks,
    This appears to be a Wehrpass for a man from the Netherlands who became an SS officer through the normal promotion process. I assume the unit log train was over run, in this case by a British or Canadian force. How can I find out what happen to this Dutch officer?

                    He started as a draftee because he was a Czechoslovakian, not a Dutchman. His birth city G******246;rkau is nowadays the city Jirkov in Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic. Another hint is the "Staatsangeh******246;righeit" entry, which refers to Deutsches Reich (Dutchmen remained Dutchmen) and CSR = Czechslovakischen Republik.

                    Still a nice booklet from what I have seen !

                      Hello Robert,

                      Congratulations with this nice wp group.

                      The ss-soldier isn't Dutch, it is a German national.
                      He is born in Germany and his familiy lives in Germany, he doesn't even speak Dutch.
                      You are probabily a bit confused because you see the ss resort listed as an adresse, but this is just the place where his unit was at that time to enjoy a time-out from the war.

                      Have you tried the German wargraves website?

                        The only award was his wound badge, though his Stammkarte shows the Eastern Front Medal also being awarded which leads me to believe:
                        - he survived his entry intocombat with Frundsberg on the eastern front
                        - he lived long enough to have contact with the Brits

                          Tim, is spot on with the nationality a German national born in Czechia.

                          Sorry, but I'am not sure he was actif in Normandy.
                          He was written of as a member of the Frundsberg division on 22/06/1944.
                          Frundsberg div joined the battle in Normandy on D+19 (25/06/1944) ofcourse his documents could still be in the divisions administration where they were captured by the allies in Falaise for example.
                          Most likely he was not fit enough anymore to serve with the AA 10 ss pz div because of his wound sustained in the East, so he is transfered out of the division just before they went to the Normandy front.
                          What happend with him after he left the Frundsberg division most likely w'll stay a mystery, alas.
                          Perhaps he joined them again when he was fit enough or he just went as an officer to another ss unit, all speculation ofcourse.

                            Thanks for correction on nationality. I knew Westland recruited from Dutch volunteers, but came to the wrong conclusion.

                              No Normandy entries - but the capturing Brit and his buddies signed in in the back, and the Stammkarte also has the soldiers' wifes mailing address penciled on it.
