    numbers under the eagles on stamps?

    I've seen on some stamps numbers under the eagle, what do they mean? Is it the kompagnie or the numper of stamps of that certain unit that where made? Can someone help me becouse I'm confused.

    In order to keep control of the stamps, the units were authorized to number them, if they had more then one. Their use was supposed to be strickly controled.
