Post May 1945 promotions?

This is really a follow on from my Panzer Abteilung 211 group thread. I was a little surprised to see a promotion to Feldwebel dated 1.6.45 (confirmed in both Wehrpass and Soldbuch), has anyone else seen post 8th May '45 promotions entered in the Soldbuch or Wehrpass?
I perhaps should'nt have been overly surprised bearing in mind the relatively large amount of autonomy the German forces enjoyed in Norway during the summer of '45

...not surprising. Actually promotions (and the amount of autonomy the Wehrmacht had in Norway) is mentioned in the book Armee hinter Stacheldraht. I will get the isbn number of this book if you like.

More surprising to me are some entries I have in a Soldbuch from a man of the Stab/ Inf. Div. 24 in Kurland. They were made on 14.5.1945 after the unit was in Soviet hands!

Post capture entries whilst in Soviet hands is surprising. Thanks for the book tip off, i found it on amazon.

I've only seen it for NCOs.

There were cases of generals already "scheduled" for promotions to take effect as of 1st June 1945, but I've never seen anyone claiming such a rank afterwards.

Interesting that date as I have one also that was promoted to Feldwebel on 1.6.1945, he was the Personalschreiber to General der Gebirgstruppe Hubert Lanz EL XXII Gebirgs Armee Korps.

I will take a look for other examples as I am sure I have more....

Hi all,

Promotions and awards for german POWs during or after the conflict are common. A german POW camp was under GB, US, FR or Soviet control but POWS were organised in a military way.

Promotion in captivity

Here is an example for a Oberjäger of the Brigade Ramcke which has been captured on the 5.11.42 by El-Alamein.
This document has been sent to his parents.
It shows that families had not only info about the health of their relatives (Red Cross) but even that there was a connection between the POW Camp in Africa N°308 and the German Military Administration and Berlin.
