                      01.08.1942

Herr REDVIPER: was Obergefreiter Becker taken prisoner by the Russians and then returned to Deutschland after the war, or was he killed on 01.08.1942?

So, Becker was killed, probably when his plane went down since no 'chutes were observed.

That raises the question then as to how his Wehrpaß went from the possession of his Staffel into the collector's marketplace. Was it common practice after the war for the West German government to gather up all these documents of the killed and missing and dump them on the market? Or were they returned to surviving relatives during or after the war and then they later sold them? It seems like it must be the latter.

                            Hello,

This is one of the many MIA wp/sb groups that came on the market in the early 90's.
Most of them where just split up by the dealers.
The origin of these wp/sb's is the German archive for MIA luftwaffe air crews.
That archive was liberated from his material in the 90's.
I leave it to your own imagination how they left the archive.....
If you have trouble with your conscience; you better don't collect MIA aircrew wp/sb's.

                            Cheers,
                            Peter

@Ian & BHS1956 Thank you very much for your information that was a fantastic help for me

I buy it from a photo collector the have allways only photos ( but I think he is any from the bigest collectors in germany for photos ) .And the funny is that a friend tell me before 1 hour that this Wehrpass was in his collection and he give it up to Mister Berkel and from this comes of any mystery way to the photo collector .But I was happy that I can buy for my collection

                              Regards Thomas
