      Hello Erwin,
I have never seen the quote marks around the HG on real HG dogtags before. In other words, usually it would just read Pz.Rgt. HG, not Pz.Rgt. "HG".
In Bender's book on HG, there is a picture of the HG Panzer dogtag that was part of George Petersen's collection.
      Thank you,
      Curtiss

such a generic font,,with stamps that can be bought at any machine parts supply, you could make that tag up in 15min......

Hi Guys ,the above dog tag was purchaised from a family estate in Germany and came with a photo of the owner and HG breast eagle.I would be very surprised if there was anything wrong with it.

            Hope this helps

            Kenny.

Well Kenny, how about the SS "Lutzow" tag you are selling - is it also coming from family estate?

                Hello Al,

no that came from a collector I think it is a ground dug piece ,I don't usually buy ground dug items but it came in with other pieces.

Do you have a problem with it? SS dogtags are nightmares but I thought it looked OK.

Came from a totally different source than the HG tag.

                Kenny.

Lutzow tag is a typical fake from St.Petersburg/Russia

Thanks for that Al, if it is a fake I will certainly remove it from my site.

How can you tell its a fake?

                    cheers Kenny.

Try searching this forum for more St.Petersburg fakes. You will find lots of them here.
                      Cheers

Thanks Al, I have done a search but can only find four threads none of which are very helpful. What are the characteristics of a St Petersburg fake, could you perhaps post a link to a thread which will help clarify this.I am no expert on dog tags but I think you will understand I want to be 100% sure this is a copy before I condemn this item to the junk pile.

                        Apprieciate your help,

                        cheers Kenny.

                          Kenny,

I want to commend you on verifying whether or not the SS tag is fake and not ranting that it's 1000% original. If the HG tag had been given Al's blessing I would have bought it a long time ago!

Thanks for your kind comments Gene yes I would really like to know if the dog tag is original if there is any doubt about it I would rather remove it from my site.

Most of our items come from veterans that why you dont see us with an abundance of SS helmets, tunics or German Crosses etc but still we like to think everything we sell is 100% original.

I would even appricate an email to the shop if someone sees something on our site they don't like. The thought that people have been looking at a known St Petersburg dog tag on my site is not ideal.

As I say most of our items come from veterans this dog tag come from a collector so who knows where he got it from possibly ebay or something like that, thats why I'm open to opinions on it.

On the other hand the HG tag come from a source I have never had any problems with and as I said before would be very surprised if there was anything wrong with it.

The Lutzow fake is from an early series [early 90s] of tags put out by a seller named 'Rokas' when they were in St. Pete. When they somehow moved to Canada they took on a completely different font which are the ones most collectors get burned on lately because they too are almost 10 years old now,[try "Rokas" search]..
The early tag collectors remember the early fonts and they occasionally had mistakes in the nomanclature...,G.
