Re: Wehrpass cover and stamps fake or real

    Hi,

I had a collector say the stampings on this cover are fake and the its not original. Please, I need people to voice their opinions on this. I am trying to learn my new scanner the pics come out brighter than normal.

    Hello,

Difficult to say their are several different types used in black and red ink.
So I honestly don't know, but I wouldn't care either if it was in my collection.
It is the inside that counts not the coverstamp, for me it doesn't add an extra value to a wp. It is just a little bonus if it is stamped ss. ss-vt is even more intresting, but not extra value, but I'am speaking for myself, others might have an other idea.
Don't lose any sleep over it!

    Cheers,
    Peter

exactly. If the book is to an SS man and contains good SS stamps and entries, then that would go a long way to answering your question if the front cover stamp is good or not.
i.e. if the inside is good, then a faker would not need to bother stamping up the outside to increase value.

If however the inside entries are nothing to write home about, then there is more of a case for the front stamp being fake.
