But please read my postings compleet, I just told that I also collect Belgian army militaria that has almost no financial value!

But hello guy's ww2 German militaria is expensive compared with other types of militaria!!!

    WHY???

And don't tell me because it is rare, believe me it isn't!!!

      Peter is right.

If you want something good or high end, you have to pay.
Sometimes you can find a bargain, but since WWII is more than 60 years over, those bargains are becoming very hard to find.
Even in source countries (germany, occopied territory,....).

Try to buy a mint, never awarded RK.
It has less historical value than a worn EK1. It has no "history" at all in relationship to the EK1.
But then, please compare the price between both pieces.

German decorations on their own have virtually no historical value because they're annonimous! You can't research a worn EKI without a name or unit...had TR medals been engraved like the majority of British medals then things would be VERY different.

You do realise i hope that there are many people out there that give items from their collections to museums? Thankfully not everyone puts profit at the top of their list of priorities. There are many museums in Europe that depend totally on what people donate.

At the end of the day we all collect for our own personal reason and each to his own. What we all share is a love for the subject matter and a desire to learn as much as we can.

BHS1959 is one of many who has an immense knowledge on the subject and its thanks to places in the net like this one that knowledge can be shared. Makes me really aware of how it must have been without the internet as a resource .

              Hello Simon,

In some posting a few months ago I gave my opinion about donating to museums.
To be short it was not positif and got the same reaction from Ian Jewison and other forum members; so I was not alone with my point of view.

It seems that I'am a harsh person by my postings on this forum!
But I'am the type of fellow that always says what he thinks if people like it or not. Sometimes this gives friction, but I prefer to have friction and difference of opinion, yes-man are to nobodies benefit in the end.

              Cheers,
              Peter

PS: I'am nice to small childern and pets

Of course you're entitled to your own point of view, no argument there. You were however making a generalisation about collectors which i felt needed to be balanced out by i different attitude towards collecting.

Is the "profit incentive" not normal?

If you are investing your well earned money in something as militaria objects it is not the objective to loose your money, isn' it.

Return on investment can be measured in different ways, not simply by numbers on a bank statement.

                  Hello Simon,

Please understand that I'am not a native English speaker and my profession is rigging, this does not involve much writing either.

What I meant was that their is nothing wrong with "profit incentive" if someone can make a bit of money selling a militaria item it is not a sin.
In the past I have sold on items some with profit others with loss, the give and take principle. You win some you loose some; I'am not a dealer let that be clear.

                  Cheers,

                  Peter
