    Geheime Feldpolizei Wehrpass

Hi Guys, got this Wehrpass with a man who served for a short time with a Geheime Feldpolizei Unit in France, but what is the abbrevation before the Geh. Feldpolizei in the stamp and the written unit designation??? It looks to me like it may mean either Gruppe or Grenadier? There are a couple more entries in the Wehrpass from that unit but they all look the same and none of them have that abbreviation spelled out ... please help ... Cheers, Torsten.

        Hello,

The German police structure before 1944 in occupied Europe is quite difficult to explain in short text but just this bit of information.

The "Geheime Feldpolizei" was a small unit that opperated in civilian dress in military-zones under controle of the wehrmacht with the task of protecting the own troops against attacks from the resistance but soon they are involved in all investigation actions against the resistance in all his forms. The used all the means necessary like: infiltration,torture...etc.
You have to remember that there was a "police-war" in occupied Europe between SS and the wehrmacht-occupationarmy for control over occupied Europe.

The are often mistaken for Gestapo/Sipo SD members there task was often similar.
In 1944 all police forces are joined in the SS under the controll of Himmler.
