    Help with Feldpost Number

    Hi everyone:
I´ve recently got a letter dated on Norway on 10 July 1940 with the following Feldpost Nr.: 09079C. Please, any help about the unit related to it will be welcome. As far as I know, it has to do with a Gebirgsjäger one.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi ******211;scar, you were correct with the Gebirgsj******228;ger connection:

    09079

    (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) Stab III Gebirgsj******228;ger-Regiment 137,
    (28.4.1940-14.9.1940) Stab III u. 11.-15. Kompanie Gebirgsj******228;ger-Regiment 137

Refer to Ian's pinned notes about the "C" suffix.

    Cheers, Ade.

As Ade has already pointed out it belonged to :

      Stab III u. 11.-15. Kompanie Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 137

The breakdown of the suffix is as follows (in your case!):

      A - Stab III. Bataillon
      B - 11 Kompanie
      C - 12 Kp.
      D - 13 Kp.
      E - 14 Kp.
      F - 15 Kp.

F is not normally used, however Gebirgsjäger Regiments tended to have 1 more Company per Battalion than normal Infanterie.

Many thanks, Ade and Ian, for your quick and kind response! It does help. I must tell you that the letter was written by a Gebirgsjäger who jumped on Björnfjell on May, 23rd 1940!
        Best regards. Óscar
