At that time, Rysavy was the Commander of the 3rd Battery of Heavy Artillery Battalion 456.
      Wow.

Outstanding D-Day casualty Soldbuch, Barry. Have you been able to locate his grave?

      Damn nice book.

Out of the last 3 books showed here, I like the one to the leutnant of the 21st Panzer Division - Josef Knies. Superb book, and thanks for sharing it. May I see the awards page, please ?

          Cheers,

              Barry,

Thank you very much for the quick response, and for the scan. I like the Soldbuch very very much, it has a very strong "personality".

              Cheers,

              Al

MisterX, don't waste our time showing boring pieces with no interest to nobody, it's more, pack this piece and send it to me so you can avoid the shame of being pointed as the one who show it in this wonderfull forum..............

I think it will not work..........outstanding piece, as I suppose you can't show us his name, if posible show the rest or the Soldbuch, if not don't worry.

                      Barry,

How was the Hauptmann killed? Hit by small arms fire? He must have been totally surprised by the situation. What a history behind that Soldbuch.

I am not exactly sure how Hauptmann Rysavy was killed. His Soldbuch was retrieved from his body by the Germans, who attached a small note that gave some details about his death. The Soldbuch was subsequently taken as a souvenir before it reached Berlin. I have the German report concerning what occurred in the sector of Heavy Artillery Battalion 456 on the morning of 6 June 1944, which states that American paratroopers landed in force there. After reviewing the known Allied landing zones, I determined that it was the 82nd Airborne that landed near Rysavy's position.

Notice the camo jacket, which I believe were made in France for members of the 21st Panzer Division before the Invasion.
That is an awesome soldbuch Stormfighter, I have never seen one from that division. I have always been looking for one since collecting a couple years ago. Could you send me more scans of it in a PM (possibly the whole thing?) so I can drool over it?

Although it's not noted on top of page one, this is a second issue Soldbuch.
