ID disk only with numbers, FJ ??

    Hi all,

today I got this dogtag from an older men who once collected himself. I wanted to ask you what unit the ID disk belonged to ? He couldnt tell me anything about it and I do not know as well.
A quick search on the forum brought the FJ idea to my mind but I realy do not know.
The tag is no groundfind, but needs some cleaning. Someone already rubbed the tag a little bit.

    Your help is most appricated.

    Thanks Jens

Assuming "63092" is a Feldpostnummer, that number belonged to:

6.Battr.le.Flak-Abt.943 (o). That Abteilung was formed in summer 1943 and spent the war defending airfields and bridges in and around Münster/Westf.

If it's authentic, it belonged to III Fallschirm Schule (Braunschweig).

            Hi Guys,

many thanks for the info guys. A friend also told me that this number belonged to a Flak unit, but now with the FJ school Iam confused.
Is this another ID number beside the fieldpost number ?

Dear Mr. dogtag would you please enlighten me, Iam a total beginner when it comes to ID disks.

How can I find out if it is authentic ? I paid 5 € to the old men and he didnt know anything about it....

            Thanks Jens

After examining the pictures I belive the tag is authentic.
The numbers are coming from Mobilisierung Haup Liste - a list of codes used by Luftwaffe & FJ units.
              Regards
              Al

                Thanks Al,

so why is it possible that the same number was used for two different units ?
Are all tags with only numbers FJ ?

How much could it be worth ?

                Many thanks Jens

The Mobilisationshauptliste numbers that I have seen were both 5-digit and 6-digit numbers, so 63092 could be a Mobilisationsnummer. But I am no expert on Erkennungsmarke, so perhaps some others who know a lot about this subject will enter the discussion and express an opinion. I can tell you that I have a photocopy of the 79-page, typed, single-space, Mobilisationshauptliste kept by the Organisationsabteilung/Genst.d.Lw. that can be found in BA-MA Freiburg, Signatur RL 2 III. There is no Mob.Nr. 63092 in this list, but Mob.Nr. 63093 is for Fliegerschule d.Lw. (S) 1 and Mob.Nr. 63094 is for Fliegerschule d.Lw. (S) 2. Those were glider schools that came under XI. Fliegerkorps. XI. Fliegerkorps commanded all of the Fallschirmjäger units. Although the evidence is circumstantial, there does seem to be the possibility of a connection between that number and Fallschirmschule 3 at Braunschweig-Broitzem.

Dogtags did not have Feldpost numbers on them, they had MOB numbers.

Supposedly, true Brandenburger's had FP Nr. dog tags, however they are few and far between and I have not seen much evidence of this.

Actually both Feldpost and MOB numbers appear on German IIWW tags.
Ian, you are right - Brandenburgers used FP numbers on their tags + ( what is unique for this very unit) roman bataillon number.
FP numbers were used by all sorts of WH units + several units of W-SS ( 500/600 FJ , Jagdverbanden, etc.)
I will try to post some pictures here tommorow.
