    Feldpostnr. on Gsamask

    Hi fellow collectors

I got this nice 1939 dated Gasmask some weeks ago and
now I would like to get information on the Feldpostnummer.
The owner has written his name and fieldpost number also
on the bottom of the canister as well as on the inner lid of the
    spare lens compartment.
    The number reads L-40423.

    Thank you in advance !

    FpN L 40423

    (30.7.1941 - 28.2.1942) Front-Rep.Betr.D.L.H.Ost Gen.Luftzeugmeister,
    (12.3.1943 - 7.9.1943) Front-Rep.Betr.G.L.2573 (D.L.H.Ost), then deleted 8.2.1945.

Do you know what all that is? If you do, then you have done a lot of deep research in the surviving Luftwaffe documentation. If you don't, then let me know.

      The prefix L denotes Luftwaffe:

      40423

      (30.7.1941-28.2.1942) Front-Reparaturbetrieb D.L.H. Ost Generalluftzeugmeister,
      (12.3.1943-7.9.1943) Front-Reparaturbetrieb G.L. 2573 (D.L.H. Ost),
      8.2.1945 cancelled.

It was a Heinkel airframe repair workshop located at Krosno in South Poland and run by Deutsche Lufthansa under contract to the Generalluftzeugmeister/RLM. It repaired Heinkel airframes that were expected to take longer than 10 days to repair. The workers were virtually all civilians, although it is possible that there were a handful of uniformed Luftwaffe personnel there, too, probably as a small administrative detachment or for a short time as craftsman trainees.

            BHS 1956 and Ian ,
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question.
            That was real quick !
I really supposed that the mask was never worn in combat and
the owner had plenty of time and skill to name the canister this way.

BHS , special thanks to you for the in depth information on this subject.

A special "Merry Christmas " or as we say in german "Fröhliche Weihnachten " to both of you.

            Kind regards ,

            Bernhard
