I would like to show this Wehrpass about Leutnant Helmut Eckoldt who served under Johannes Steinhoff in 1941. Steinhoff was the Staffelkapitaen of 4/JG52 and Erich Woitke the Gruppekommandeur of II/JG52.
Eckoldt started frontline service with 4/JG52 in May 1941 based in Belguim but was soon moved to the East for the start of the invasion of the Soviet Union. Like many young pilots he 'filled his boots' at the start of the campaign and shot down six Soviet aircraft by the end of July 1941. He was awarded the EKII and the Frontflugspange fuer Jager im Bronze for completing twenty operational missions.
Eckoldt was shot down and has been missing in action since 14 August 1941 in a BF109F-2. He was shot down area the area of Lake Ilmen in the northern section of the front and has been missing in action ever since.
I have another Wehrpass to a pilot in 4/JG52 who served in 1943, when the situation was different and hope to post this at some later stage. I hope that someone finds this of interest and any comments would be gratefully received.
Regards,
Andy
