    4.Ers.Btl.J.B.G.D

4.Ers.Btl. - It is clear, G.D. - too it is clear, and what in this case means J.B.?

    Hi Igor,

That's a confusing marking- are you sure it's not 'JR'? GD was designated 'Infanterie Regiment (mot) Grossdeutschland'. 'JB' would seem most likely to be 'Infanterie Bataillon', but 'Grossdeutschland' was never an Infanterie Bataillon and anyway that wouldn't fit with the 'Ersatz Bataillon'... are you sure it's authentic? There are a lot of 'Grossdeutschland' fakes out there...

It's Infanterie-Brigade I think...certainly GD replacement organisation was Brigade sized.

        Hi Matt and Gary T,
        Thank for your responses.
This Tag original. One of my familiar of Konigsberg itself has found it. Whether there can be it 4 kompanie - Ersatz Bataillon - Jager Brigade - division Grossdeutschland? Whether there was an infantry brigade in this division?

          Hi Igor,

Well there is no better way to know it's authentic than to know the person who found it Apparently, GD was in Königsberg from 2.45 to 3.45 so the location fits. Of course, at that time it was already called 'Panzer-Grenadier-Division Grossdeutschland'. I've never heard any references to an Infanterie-Brigade in GD myself, but I suppose anything's possible. The Germans used a old form of the letter 'I' that looks like a 'J', so it's most likely the marking on your disc is in fact an 'I'. The term 'Jäger', while applicable to the Infanterie, isn't at all common so I very much doubt that the 'JB' is Jäger-Brigade.
