1 Kompanie Jäger Regiment 49 of the 28 Jäger Division.

#2. Oh dear, seems like your man drew the short straw. The entry refers to a close anti-tank fighting course run by the Panzer Jäger abteilung of the division. He was to be a tank killer using methods that meant you had to get up close and personal with your target. Things like T-mines, magnetic charges that sort of thing.

#3 *** in russia in *** of the 28 Jäger Division. Can't quite read those two words but basically saying he served in Russia in the area of the 28 Jäger Division (the Leningrad area)

#4 Not unsurprisingly he didn't survive too long. KIA 14.1.44. Can't make out the words on lines 2 and 3.

            Thanks for the reply Simon.
But then the 2 lines on the picture in the first post aren't 2 different units but one? Why are there 2 different dates, that's what wonders me..

essentially he was only posted to one field unit. The entry dated 25.12.42 to 12.5.43 refers to a transit formation of the 28 J******228;ger Div. Not a permanent unit but a way of organising and controlling recruits to the division moving from Germany to Russia. As the period is quite long i wonder if the time also included extra training prior to moving to the front, like the course entered in the WP. That's why the entry on page 32 only starts on the same day he's posted to 1./J******228;ger Rgt.49

Rahmen, that's it. So, "within the area of the 28 Jäg.Div."

                        28. J******228;g. Div. (my mistake).

But "im Rahmen" means acting within this unit.
Within the area would be "im Bereich..." or "im Gebiet..."

Acting within means nothing else that they were acting in the same area but also that they were a part of the named unit or belonging/affiliated to them.

Within the area, than they were acting in the same area but possibly with completely different missions and under an other command.

I'm not satisfied with that. I'll try again:

                          13.5.43 K******228;mpfe in Russland im
                          14.1.44 Rahmen der 28.Jag.Div.
                          (beim R.O.K. 18)

                          13.5.43 - 14.1.44. Fights in Russia in context of the 28th J******228;ger Division. (with R.O.K 18)

There! I like that much better.

Thanks Gary. What does AOK 18 signify?
