    wehrpas entry question

Im helping my brother Steve research a wehrpas he received a while back.i intend to enter this area as well soon,so im trying to learn as a much i can as before parting with the dollars.

I did find GaryT,s excellent sight on wehrpases and that has really explained a lot in reference to these fascinating books.

The wehrpas steve has, was owned by gefreiten Johannus schaller.Served in 1 Komp.Lw. Bau=Batl. 8/1 from the 13/mar/1940 till 2/juli/1942 when he was killed in operations on the russian front.
The question i have is reference pages 24-25,which i believe pertains to discharge information. There is no actual disharge information but the section at the bottom of page 25 is filled out.
What i can ascertain it relates to security issues and such.

It is dated the 20 mar 1940(1 week after he marched into his unit).
In the "(Dienftfelle)" section it has the unit stamp,"1 KOMP. LW. BAU= BATL.8/1.
In the "(Unterfchrift)" section it has what appears to Johannus schallers signature.
In the ""(Dienftgrab,Dienftftellung)"section is a "KOMPANIEFUHERER"stamp. On the left of that is the kompaniefuhrers signature.
And finally on the left of the entire section is a circular stamp with wehrmachtadler eagle in the centre, and the units name "1 komp.lw.bau=batl/8/1. around the inner rim of the outer circle.

I did notice the wording that heads the section, does pertain to security issues, espionage and such.

Any opinions on why this section has been completed with out any other discharge details being evident or does this section have some other function?

Perhaps acknowledgement that johannus has read unit standing orders?

    regards keifer

    Hi Keifer,

These pages as you mention are for discharge....on discharge the person is given lessons in espionage, counter espionage, treason, the keeping of secrets etc.etc....
In your case it simply means that on the said date he did sat/received lessons in the above. Many soldiers received these lessons whilst still in service, however I have noticed these entries more in Landesschützen or Sicherungs units Wehrpäßen.

In some instances this section is written on a seperate page as not to "confuse" the issue...you are correct he was not discharged.....

      Belehrung

      Hi,

The Belehrung did not involve any instruction or examination. The soldier in question was formally cautioned about what might be considered spying or treason and about not communicating information that could be considered a military secret, such as troop movements, equipment, readiness levels, etc. This sort of formal caution was also given to members of other organisations such the RAD, Org. Todt, etc. in the scope of their (para-)military duties.

      Cheers,

      David
