Hi, I picked up a wehrstammbuch. What exactly is it and how much is it worth? It has a few small documents and small picture in the back fold also. This young man was in the GJ Ers. Rgt 100 and also GJ Rgt. 99. The last date I could find was 14/8/43 it was written in pencil on the front page, last unit was (14/7/43- 12/8/43) (Marsch Kp./ Geb. Jag. Ers. Batl. 99). Do you think he was killed? Listings and dates for the Kaukusas. With Armee reserve listed twice between these dates. Wound badge listed (2/12/42). A lot of info but very hard to read as most of the writing is not very legible. Book is in good condition. It has a page that says VI. Strafen with a date and some writing, next page dilziplinarstrafen 3 tage, 15/6/43. Any info would be great.

Wehrstammbuch were issued at the same time his Wehrpass was (when he mustered for military classification and service)and basically reflects the same information. It initially followed him to the training unit but was sent back to the recruitment office (Wehrmeldeamt or Wehrkommando) when he was sent to the field. If transfered from one unit to another, the Kriegstammrolle (choke full of information), created by the feld unit for each member of the unit, would then be forwarded to the recruiting office, to be transcribed into the wehrstammbuch. Because of the increase traffic of paperwork during the war, regulations came out to just put the KSR in the back pocket until after the war. Unfortunately, many dealers break up this paperwork and sell the pages seperate. The other type of paperwork you should find with the Wehrstammbuch would be things like call up orders, police checks, Aryan race declarations, etc. and Soldbuchs of those KIA To answer the other question, one thing the Wehrstammbuch covers that the Wehrpass doesn't is discipline problems. Your man was given 3 days arrest for some minor infraction. If he was KIA or MIA, there should be a notation on the "hospital page" right after the field service page. There may be a notation on the cover also about being stricken off the "zahlkarte" Basically the Wehrstammbuch was like the US Army 201 file. Hope this helps.

Hi Lee,
I use Photobucket to host the pictures I post here. It's free and I've found it easy to use. Here's the link:
