    Artillerydiv. in DAK help??

    Hello guys!

I am looking for a dog tag to my Afrikakorps-set. It`s an artillery lieutenant. But I need to know witch artillery divisions fought with Rommel in Afrika?

I hope someone here with the knowledge can help me out

    Best regards
    Marius

    dogtags

excessively hard to find any afrika dogtags.
To start with, most dogtags worn in afrika were printed with the soldier's reserve unit back in Germany, so you can not positively id most of them as being "afrika" dogtags.
Secondly, the ones which can be positively id'ed as afrika unit dogtags are 90% fake.
I have been collecting DAK for many years and have only two 100% Afrika dogtags.
They both came with supporting groups of documents. I would never risk buying one on its own.
Sorry to be pessimistic, just realistic.

      Hello millcollector!

Thank you for your help But what I wonder is witch artillerydivisions were stationed in Afrika. Then, if I manage to get a dogtag from one of these divisions, I can include it in the set. So I will have to do with next to best, one that not positively can be determined as a 100% "Afrika" dogtag but might have been there.

Any information about these divisions anyone?

      Best regards
      Marius

        Hei Marius

The Germany army only really ever had one proper artillery division, the 18 Art.Div. which operated on the Eastern front during the relatively short period it existed.

batteries, battalions and regiments of course are another matter.

          Heisann Simon!

Thank you Guess I will have to find a book at amazon.com or automobilia and study this. Do anyone have a list of these batteries, battalions and regiments at hand? I have to start somewhere

          Regards
          Marius

I'm assuming you're interested in all artillery units that served in Africa not just those of the DAK.

            you can start here http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=2057

It gives you many of the non-divisional artillery units as at Aug.1942

Then go over to the lexikon http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...rmeeAfrika.htm

and find out via the links the designations of the various divisional artillery regiments, for example Artillerie Regiment 33 which belonged to the 15 Panzer Division.

There are one or two Afrika specialists here so hopefully one of them can help you further or at least point you in the right direction.

Simon gave you all the information you need. Good luck on this very difficult task you have. Remember, get expert opinions on any dogtag you consider buying.
90% of the rare ones out there on the market are fake.
