    Puzzled re death card

    Hi,

I've got an auction on Ebay at the moment for a deathcard from the 2WW. It's made out to a 21yr old obergefreiter who died at Stalingrad by the name of Jolef Schwarz, leichten art reg.

Can anyone tell me why it has suddenly shot up to £31 from what I thought was a high start price of £7.49?

I have no real experience in the paperwork side of things so thought this might be the best place to ask.

    Regards to all,

    Angus

Just like other collecting aspects of this hobby, there is a big following of items related to Stalingrad.

      Deathcards

      Hello,

As someone who collects deathcards(on the side )I totally agree with what gene said, the fact that the man fought at stalingrad makes the card very valuable the deathcard colectors.
At one point I had over 300 cards for all branches of the service,SS cards-but never one for a stalingrad fighter!allthough that price was a little high I would expect them to run in the $30-$60 range, about the same as a good SS card or highly decorated soldier/officer.

        Hi Yancy,

Thanks for the extra info. I bought the card as it came with some medals but I've never got into them. The same guy in Austria sold me 20 other cards for 30€ so I guess I've done well. Seems to be alot of panzer grenediers, EK2 recipients and two ranks I can't figure out:

Schuke (U with umlaut) in a Panzer jager komp

        and

        kanonier

If anyone has the translation It'd be much appreciated.

        Thanks and regards,

        Angus

          Hi Angus,

Kanonier is a 'private' in an Artillerie unit (cannoneer)

Schueke is a word I'm not familiar with at all- are you sure it's a rank? Does the notice read '(name) ein Schueke in einem Panzerjaeger Kompanie' or something to that effect?

          Matt

Could be Schutze in a Panzerjager Kompanie? That means he was a private in a tank destroyer unit.

Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.
